By Car
Reminder: Fuel up your vehicle before you begin the drive across the Overseas Highway.  Fuel is very expensive at the few stations along the way and in Florida City.

Although time-consuming, the drive to Key West is one of the most beautiful and scenic drives in the U.S.  Follow the Florida Turnpike or US1 south to Florida City.   Once you reach Florida City, Key West is about 2 1/2 hours away.  US1 is the only road to Key West, and is mostly two lanes, so traffic can be slow going.  The speed limits through the Keys are strictly enforced, so it's a good idea to follow the posted speed limits.
